Challenges in the field of UX
How do we develop a cutting-edge e-banking app that not only excels in terms of functionality and design but also offers intuitive navigation and personalized interactions, all while seamlessly integrating into Vontobel’s existing architecture? Or, in short, how do we deliver a simple and modern banking experience?
The solution is
Using an agile and interdisciplinary development approach with ongoing user testing, we have completely redesigned our e-banking app.
It combines intuitive navigation and personalized services with an outstanding user experience that adapts to changing customer needs without compromising brand integrity.
Challenges in the field of UI
How do we develop a compelling design for the Vontobel e-banking app that aligns with our brand identity, given that we don’t yet have an established design system, plan to roll it out across the entire bank in the future, and are simultaneously introducing new tools like Figma Dev Mode?

To meet these challenges, we have established processes and developed a comprehensive design system that is closely aligned with our brand identity.
Through close collaboration between the design, development, and branding teams, we were able to create a cohesive and compelling user interface that harmonizes with the Vontobel brand both functionally and aesthetically, setting new standards in private banking.
Approach and cooperation
The development of the Vontobel e-banking app was based on close, interdisciplinary collaboration. Through agile sprints and regular iterations, we efficiently integrated design and functionality. Design concepts were quickly visualized and refined through workshops, prototyping, and continuous user testing.
It was also important to continuously validate different design variants to ensure that the solutions were both technically feasible and visually appealing.

Figma Design System
As part of the redesign of our e-banking app, we implemented a comprehensive design system. Over 70 UI components were developed in Figma and defined in all possible variations (states, micro-animations, etc.).
This resulted in a central library that is already being used by other teams and applications within Vontobel and ensures a consistent look and feel across our apps.
My responsibility was to build, document, and maintain a sustainable Figma design system, as well as to ensure a smooth handover to the developers.

Navigation feedback
Most users found the navigation to be clear and straightforward, although minor adjustments (such as adding tooltips and reducing white space) could improve its intuitiveness, especially for users with prior experience.

Impact
Thanks to the careful and thoughtful work on the Figma Design System, my client can now quickly and reliably continue developing the e-banking app, which has led to an improved customer experience, more efficient communication, and an increase in positive customer feedback.
Furthermore, by working on the Figma Design System, I have ensured a consistent look and feel across Vontobel’s various digital products. This can now also be easily applied as a new standard to other Vontobel apps.
